Robert (Bob) Conners has been appointed CEO of Umbilicals International, a Seanamic Group company, based in Houston, Texas. Formerly Vice President of the SURF Business unit at the Prysmian Group, he will be responsible for developing the company’s global umbilicals, and cables business for the offshore, onshore and defence sectors.
Umbilicals International is an established provider of high performance umbilicals, cables and hoses to the oil and gas, diving, seismic and defense industries. Mr Conners has 35 years’ experience in a range of senior management roles in engineering companies. This included President of HL Technologies (now Umbilicals international) in 2009 where he successfully developed new business streams in the subsea, seismic and defense sectors.
“Umbilicals International is a great company with many market leading products and technologies,” says Bob Conners, CEO, Umbilicals International. “In the current climate, it is well placed to meet the demand for high performance systems that meet the most rigorous project demands while offering low cost of ownership.”
Umbilicals and cables specialist, Umbilicals International, part of the Seanamic Group, has invested over $2M in new cable manufacturing lines at its Houston production facility. The two lines will streamline cable production, and marks a significant expansion of the company’s dynamic cable manufacturing capability.
Umbilicals International (UI) designs and manufactures high performance cable, hose and umbilical systems for subsea oil and gas field development, oceanographic and environmental research and naval defense. The new machines are a 56 position dual purpose planetary cabling and armoring line and a 12 position large reel capacity cabling line suitable for production of dynamic cables of 4km and longer. UI is now well placed to meet the growing demand for longer dynamic cables, believes CEO Colin Zak. “Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV), blow out preventer (MUX) control cable and tow cables of lengths up to 4km are now becoming the norm, we are one of the few companies with the ability to make dynamic armoured cables at these lengths.”
In addition to custom-designed or build-to-print umbilicals and cables, UI also offers in-house servicing and repair of various cable assemblies and related systems . Umbilicals International cables and umbilicals are designed specifically for dynamic, load bearing applications where frequent deployment and recovery of the attached system is required. The critical nature of these systems including life support in the case of manned diving demands the highest level of product engineering and quality assurance.
Offshore handling systems specialist Caley Ocean Systems based in the UK and leading umbilical and cable maker Umbilicals International based in the US have joined forces to offer operators and offshore contractors integrated solutions for the deployment of subsea packages and well intervention systems.
Increased deepwater and ultra-deepwater processing and production, and the high number of mature subsea wells, is driving the demand for subsea intervention. The integrated approach offered by the combined technical and engineering expertise and resource of Caley and Umbilicals International holds the key to maximizing the efficiency of intervention operations. “Flexibility of mobilization is critical to minimizing the time and cost of intervention,” says Gregor McPherson, sales director, Caley Ocean Systems. “Handling systems need to be compact, often modular, with a small deck footprint and able to be readily mobilized to vessels of opportunity.” Caley Ocean Systems has over 40 years experience in the design and manufacture of offshore handling systems for the oil and gas, offshore renewable energy, oceanographic science and research, and naval rescue markets. It recently announced an IWOCS Deployment System – the second generation of Caley’s topside handling equipment specially designed to provide access to wellheads and manifolds for intervention and work-over.
Bringing it together, umbilicals and winch systems for subsea intervention from Caley and Umbilicals International. Specialist cables and umbilicals offered by Umbilicals International will optimize the performance of Caley’s reel drives and winch systems. “Our cables and umbilicals are used in the main for dynamic, load bearing applications where frequent deployment and recovery of the attached system is required. Working with Caley we are able to increase cable and umbilical service life, reducing the downtime between deployments,” notes Colin Zak, CEO, Umbilicals International. Umbilicals International is a leading manufacturer of special application cables, hoses, umbilicals and related products. Through its market specific divisions, Umbilicals International and Geocable Systems, the company specializes in innovative solutions for electrical, optical and fluid interconnection in harsh environments encountered in subsea oil and gas field development, maintenance and repair, oceanographic and environmental research and naval defense.
Caley Ocean Systems and Umbilicals International are the first companies in the newly formed Seanamic Group, backed by Simmons Private Equity providing packaged solutions for operators and main contractors.
